Director of Bands - Mr. Jonathan Chacne |
BIO
I am originally from Dora, Alabama. I moved to Troy to attend college and have now been teaching in Luverne for eleven years. I am married to Beverly Chance, and we have two daughters, Annalee and Brylee. We attend Goodhope Baptist church, where I serve as the Minister of Music. When I do have free time, I love playing golf. My passion is still music because it has given me experiences that I would not have had otherwise. I made lasting friendships, went on once in a lifetime trips, and had doors opened to college. The main reason I became a teacher is to give my students the experiences I had and to encourage them to attend college.
Education
My music education began in 6th grade when I joined my school's band program. I wanted to play the saxophone but when my band director tested me he said I was more suited for the trumpet. I am very thankful for his decision. I participated in marching and concert bands. Being in band took me so many places -- not only all over Alabama to football games, but also to many competitions to see other bands. Through these experiences I was even able to travel to Tennessee, Troy University, and even Washington D.C. I received a music scholarship and performed with the Sound of the South, Troy Symphonic Band, Jazz Band, and the Trumpet Ensemble. Over the course of my education, I have worked hard to learn every instrument that is found within the band program. I believe that an education is never complete and I continue to learn through my participation in professional development.
